Committed towards Health Safety and Environment

Safety is our priority and its responsibility lies with every employee and stakeholder. As stated in the Sustainability Vision 2023, we are working towards achieving ‘Zero Harm’, through zero reportable injuries and leveraging on the five-pillar approach to safety management. At GHCL we continuously identify activities to strengthen each pillar and implement them across businesses. We conduct safety management audits to check safety-preparedness of our facilities, identify system gaps and plug loopholes as recommended. We have HSE stewards and identify a ‘Safety Champion of the month’ to improve our safety reporting capabilities and create a sense of ownership among line functions. We to capture Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) related data covering lagging & leading indicators through our HSE dashboard.

Our commitment to protect the environment is evident in our “Sustainability Vision 2023” under which we have dedicated targets for being a responsible steward and climate warrior. In addition, as a responsible corporate citizen, we are committed to being 100% compliant with the environmental protection laws and regulations. Our environmental policy reviews our commitment to conserve and manage the environment in which we operate for the benefit of the present and future generations. It is our constant endeavour to utilize our resources effectively while managing operational impacts and minimizing our footprint on the environment.  We have set targets for reduction in freshwater consumption, energy consumption and waste generation and work relentlessly towards reducing our environmental footprint. We continuously innovate products and processes in line with our environmental commitments. We ensure that our environmental monitoring, management strategies and processes are periodically reviewed and updated.

At GHCL, safety of employees at workplace is key. We organize mock fire drills and fire safety training classes at regular intervals across all plants locations.

We have developed a Green Procurement policy for Soda Ash Division to ensure that the products and services have minimal environmental impact and ensure green sourcing considerations. For transportation, inbound (raw material) and outbound (finished product) we ensure that the trucks are covered with tarpaulin to ensure no spillage or dust generation during the movement. Sprinklers or dry fog systems are installed to reduce dust emissions at material handling areas within the plant. As a preference, bulkers are used for transportation which helps in reducing pollution, minimizing waste, eliminating  efforts of packaging, loading and unloading.

Sustainability for all businesses is intrinsic to our culture. It is our constant endeavour to ensure that we leave behind a positive legacy for generations to come.
